yum, yum, yum: turnip greens

Today's food for thought (I'm still pondering what I think about this quote): "The only way we're going to reduce disease is to go backwards to the diet and lifestyle of our ancestors" by Dr. Denis Burkitt

This I'm adventuring into the world of turnip greens. Apparently they are terrific, and I'm in a phase where I'll try just about anything. A recipe for this week: black beens and turnip greens. Here's the recipe. Hopefully it turns out!

Also, who knew there were so many places to find IRON to add into one's eating: http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/iron.htm

  1. thanks for sharing the iron link. i'm not vegan (or vegetarian for that matter, if i had to categorize myself it would be a flexitarian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flexitarian). i am border-line anemic so this helps as i'd much rather get my iron naturally than through supplements.

  2. Turnip greens, I've never seen those in stores. Right now, I'm a bit obsessed with plain ol' brussels sprouts, roasted with a teaspoon of pine nuts to amplify their nuttiness, and topped off with a little sea salt...
