Food of the Week

Welcome to Monday. This week's food is: the turnip! I'm not sure if I've ever eaten one before. But they looked quite adorable at the produce market today, and I just couldn't resist. Do you ever eat turnips? Do you cook them? I'll need to do a little research. I bought two. Here's the more purple of the two.

And here are some turnip facts:
-cultivated for the first time about 4,000 years ago
-a favorite food of the Greeks and Romans back in the day
-contains lots of cancer-fighting nutrients
-high in fiber and vitamin C (and even some calcium)

Enjoy whatever you're eating today! Let me know what your food of the week is for the days ahead!

  1. mmm, mashed turnips and roasted turnips with rosemary are my favorite! I like turnips with kohlrabi too.

Food of the week: jicama! I just realized that as often as I have eaten it lately, I have little idea of how to cut one. Do you have any tips?
